Dr. Switzer grew up as the child of missionary parents and a father who was ex-military. She spent 2 years in Austria as a young child and then when she was 9 her parents moved to Thailand as medical missionaries. She spent the rest of her childhood in Thailand. Her father did medical missions in the remote villages of Thailand. Dr. Switzer routinely went along with her father and helped out. This is when she developed her love of medicine and her desire to be a doctor.
Dr. Switzer came back to the United States for college and attended college at Kansas State University and graduated with a major in Health Sciences and a minor in Gerontology. She then went on to medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. While doing her medical school rotations, she fell in love with taking care of women. She loved that she was able to deliver babies, do gynecologic surgery, and take care of women during all the stages of their life. She then went on to do an Ob Gyn residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. After residency, Dr. Switzer practiced as a rural Ob/Gyn in Great Bend, Kansas. She then moved to Arizona in 2010 to get away from the cold weather. Dr. Switzer feels right at home here in Arizona in the heat after being raised in the tropics.
Dr. Switzer is married with 3 children. Her oldest son is in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and her 2 youngest are in their teen/adolescent years. She keeps busy with her 2 kids at home and their 3 golden retrievers and one cat. Her hobbies include reading, traveling and cooking Thai food.
