K. Shawn Lybarger, DO, MS(R)

Physician | Director of Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. LyBarger serves as the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Advanced Women’s Care as well as the Medical Director for Clinical Trials and Research for Valley Oncology in Phoenix, Arizona. A board-certified gynecologic oncologist, Dr. LyBarger integrates complex surgical intervention with an extensive background in research and clinical trials to provide state of the art treatments, targeted therapies and advanced oncological outcomes.

Prior to joining Valley Oncology, Dr. LyBarger held several leadership roles at HCA MidAmerica serving as the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology and the Medical Director for HCA MidAmerica/Sarah Cannon Clinical Trials and Research. In these capacities, he was instrumental in expanding the clinical trials portfolio as well as building a large gynecologic oncology program.

Dr. LyBarger is a recognized expert in clinical trials ensuring diversity and equity in patient access to emerging oncological therapies. He holds Masters of Science in Neurosciences/Anatomy, with an emphasis in trials and research methodology. He is currently working on his executive MBA to further expand in leadership roles.

Dr. Lybarger has been instrumental in development of robotic surgery programs, focusing on minimally invasive techniques for complex malignancies. Furthermore, has led national initiatives to implement Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols, standardizing perioperative care to improve patient safety and recovery timelines across healthcare systems.

Dr. LyBarger has held several academic appointments, contributing to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows. He has been privileged to speak at several national and international events on a variety of topics and is an active researcher, trialist and grant recipient. He spends much of his off time spending time with family, running, traveling and is passionate about his mission work in Africa.
